ILIGAN CITY - Jemar Vera Cruz sits as the Acting City Mayor of Iligan today, Thursday, June 7, 2018, after the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) served the suspension order against Mayor Celso Gomera Regencia yesterday.
DILG Assistant Regional Director Abdullah Matalam, Consultant Atty. Persevarando Arana and OIC City Director Elizabeth Buna met with Vice Mayor Vera Cruz in the Vice Mayor's Office at around 3:15 p.m. after serving the 90-day suspension order to Mayor Regencia, and gave the authority to act as the mayor of the city.
Vera Cruz said he respects the implementation of the order and accepted the appointment from the DILG. According to him, "Unsay iyang (Mayor Regencia's) programs, we continue. Unsay kulang, kung magkasabot ang SP ug ang [executive], we will do what we can do best. Ana ra na."
Meanwhile, Councilor Samuel "Tatay" Huertas, the first councilor of the Iligan City Council was invited to the meeting and was appointed as the Acting City Vice Mayor within the period of the suspension order.
