During the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) Nursing Leadership Institute training, DOH undersecretary Roger Tong-an said that they will be needing nurses for the implementation of the Universal Health Care Law.
USEC Tong-an shared, "We will have 26,000 nurses who will be in a plantilla position as an appointment next month for this Universal Health Care."
"As much as P97.4-billion will be added in the budget of the UHC 'so that our nurses in the grassroots will not be unemployed again, so pinabalik namin sila," USEC Tong-an added.
Amids cheers from the crowd, USEC Tong-an also announced that from a job order, there will be appointment of nurses who will get "very good salary package." He said, "And just to announced, that the salary of our nurses next month will be P33,787."
"So a task of this magnitude requires renewed trust and coordinated efforts among our health stakeholders. We can start the reforms in building a health care system that is strong and resilient," the undersecretary explained.
Last year, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque shared his fears that as many as 15,012 health workers may lose their jobs. The Budget Department cut down by P8-billion the DOH's Human Resource for Health Deployment Program (HRHDP), which is a deployment program of health workers to rural communities.
For 2019, it was feared that from its 2018 budget of P107.3-billion this year, the DOH may only be given a budget of P71-billion in 2019.
But on early this February, Senate restored the P20-billion to the DOH's budget, including the P4.797-billion of the P7-billion requirement for HRHDP.
Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno also promised that government nurses for HRHDP shall be given permanent and contractual positions.
DOH Undersecretary for health regulations Dr. Eric Domingo also cinfirmed that the massive hiring for health workers to help meet the better ratio of health workers to patients, as well as provide a better functioning health service delivery network nationwide. [The Summit Express]
